Multi-commodity mining company Petmin Limited (JSE: PET; AIM: PTMN) announced today that Ian Cockerill, Chief Executive Officer of Gold Fields Limited, has agreed to join the Board of Petmin as an independent non-executive director with effect from 1 October 2007.
Mr Cockerill has more than 31 years’ experience in the mining industry and leads Gold Fields, the world’s fourth-largest gold producer, producing more than 4 million ounces a year from mines in five countries, with a total workforce of 55 000. Prior to joining Gold Fields Mr Cockerill was Executive Officer responsible for Business Development and African International Operations at AngloGold Ashanti Limited.
Welcoming Mr Cockerill’s appointment to the Petmin Board, Petmin Non-Executive Chairman, Mr. Piet Nel said: “We will benefit enormously from the contribution of someone of Ian’s caliber; his expertise and experience in the areas of mining, corporate strategy and governance will be invaluable as we continue our acquisition trail and the building of an international platform.” Mr Jabu Mabena has resigned as a non-executive director of Petmin with effect from 1 August 2007. The Board thanked Mr Mabena for his valued contribution during Petmin’s early development.
